Incident description

Authenticate to Zimbra when attempting to host a video conference

Resolution description

Enable to prompt for Zimbra credentials when attempting to host a video conference currently you can only provide the functionality for one domain

  • login via ssh to the talk-server
  • open the file /etc/jitsi/jicofo/sip-communicator.properties with root privileges
sudo vi /etc/jitsi/jicofo/sip-communicator.properties

The file should only have the content of one line

org.jitsi.impl.neomedia.transform.srtp.SRTPCryptoContext.checkReplay=false
  • Add the line
org.jitsi.jicofo.auth.URL=XMPP:<yourdomain.tld>

which looks for the example of the domain zimbra.co like this:

org.jitsi.jicofo.auth.URL=XMPP:zimbra.co
  • save the file and restart jicofo service:
sudo service jicofo restart

How it works

  • In case a user requests to join a video-conference which is not open yet, the user attempting to join that video conference is asked if
    • he/she likes to wait until the host arrives
    • host the video conference him-/herself

  • as user you have two options now
    • wait until the host opens the video conference, where you autojoin in case this happens.
    • host the videoconference yourself, which will prompt you for your Zimbra credentials:

Symptoms

On Open Systems, everybody can host a video conference without having a Zimbra-Account when having a confernce-link available.
