Purpose

How To Increase SMTP Debug Logging - MTA

Resolution

1) You can obtain this by modifying the master.cf.in.

On ZCS v8.6 and Old: Modify "/opt/zimbra/postfix/conf/master.cf.in", go to the smtpd line and at the end of the line add -vv
smtp inet n - n - - smtpd -vv

On ZCS v8.7.x and Above: Modify "/opt/zimbra/common/conf/master.cf.in", go to the postscreen and smtpd lines and at the end of the line add -vv
smtp inet n - n - 1 postscreen -vv
...
smtpd pass - - n - - smtpd -vv
...
smtp unix - - n - - smtp -vv
...
465 inet n - n - - smtpd -vv
...
submission inet n - n - - smtpd -vv

To diagnose mail delivery problems we can enable verbose logging for each delivery agent (cleanup, qmgr, lmtp, local, pipe, smtp, virtual, etc.).

2) Restart the MTA service.

zmmtactl restart

3) Check log file "/var/log/zimbra.log"
