Shortcut? Rights? Install for users other than root?
"On Linux, there will be a shortcut placed the desktop." No shortcut was placed on my CentOS 5.5 desktop (running SELinux in permissive mode) during my install. Note, install must be run as root, but no shortcut was placed on root's desktop eether. (I did not choose to create data folders and such for root.) Something to look into.
Instructions for running the program if no icon is placed on the desktop would also be useful. I've tried to add this information - and to flesh out the install instructions generally - but after following all the install instructions I just don't have a working program.
I believe Jetty started when I did the user-install for my own account, but the spinner spinned and that was it for 10 minutes. I cannot start the program via the icon on my desktop at all. Beyond having been created with root privileges, I'm not sure what the problem is, but on my system at least it appears as if only root will be able to have a working account.
The likelihood that I will spend any time with a prospective product is directly proportional to the accuracy, completeness, and clarity of the installation instructions for the new installer / new user, and the easy of installation WITHOUT having to go to an email forum for help. I have no patience with installation instructions that assume knowledge I do not have. So...I'm uninstalling and off to spend my time elsewhere. Steev 00:37, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
